Once upon a time, there were three big beautiful oak trees in the land between concrete and pavement. Age and storms took their toll, and the trees came down. A dream to create a garden began to take shape, and application for a USDA grant to create a pollinator and community garden, using regenerative permaculture practices submitted. The educational component of the grant includes 8 training modules, which will be offered at Christ Church Episcopal on Thursdays from 3-4pm, January 9 – February 27, 2025 in the church building, with outdoor application of learning from each module from 4-5pm in the land between the concrete and pavement facing 3rd Street. The eight modules cover the following topics:

The Climate Context – Understanding and Planning for changes beyond our control
Planning your Garden – Location, Sun, Soil, and Water
Building the Environment – Boundaries, Beds, and Critters
Managing Water as a Resource – Rainwater Collection, Direction, and Storage
Soil Building Strategies – Evaluation, Composting, Amendments
Plant Communities – Plants that grow well together year-round
Putting it all Together – Budgeting and Brute Strength
